Emily Peffer

Recreation Specialist- Experiential Programs
Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR)

Emily has been teaching through experience with multiple organizations in her time as an experiential educator including the Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR), Girl Scouts, Challenge Towers Aerial Adventures, Team Quest with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and DEC Camp in Kiev, Ukraine.  This varied background has molded her highly collaborative mindset, and matched with her high energy makes Emily an engaging speaker and facilitator.

Originally from North Carolina, Emily attended Appalachian State University for her Bachelor’s in Recreation Management with a focus in Experiential Education. After graduating she accepted a position with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s experiential education program, Team Quest. Here Emily had the pleasure of working with university students but also with many corporate organizations including Bank of America, BB&T, and other local businesses. When Emily took on the role of Assistant Director with Team Quest she decided to continue her education, earning her Master’s in Gender Studies with a focus on Women in Community Leadership.

Two years ago Emily moved to Madison accepting the position of Recreation Specialist for Experiential and Environmental Programs with MSCR. With MSCR’s focus on family and community engagement, health and wellness, and social equity she was excited to join an organization that shared her background and passions. Currently, she oversees the Elements team building program, a fleet of canoes and kayaks, and the School Forest Campground and Environmental Education programs. These programs serve students in the Madison Metropolitan School District from kindergarten through graduation, offering unique experiential learning opportunities not always found in classroom settings. These programs are also available for nonprofits and businesses, allowing the community to support Madison’s students in experiential learning opportunities, while participating in dynamic and engaging team building programs for adults.

Emily is strongly committed to being a learner in every situation and is passionate about maintaining and creating awareness and intentionality in all settings. She’s excited to be a part of the Madison Nonprofit Day Conference!
