Marissa DeGroot

Marissa DeGroot is the Public Relations Coordinator at Dane County Humane Society (DCHS), a Madison nonprofit providing comfort and care to over 9,000 animals every year. Marissa was excited to join the DCHS team in 2015 where she could finally combine her love of animals with her passion for communications and design.

She is responsible for writing and designing direct mail and other communications pieces as well as management of the shelter website and social media outlets. As DCHS’s resident ‘Pet Lady’, Marissa can be seen on the Pet of the Week segments on Madison area TV and radio stations. Marissa loves using compelling stories and design to connect community members with a cause that is saving thousands of lives every year.

Marissa graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2008 and has called Madison home ever since. When not snuggling puppies at the shelter, she can be found snuggling her two cats, Olive and Spaceman, and loving the Madison life with her fiancé, Tommy.

Dane County Humane Society

Dane County Humane Society provides refuge, healing and new beginnings to over 9,000 companion animals, exotic species, farm animals and injured or orphaned wild animals every year.

DCHS is a non-profit, community-supported organization and is not affiliated with any government agency or national animal welfare organization. We are an open admission shelter accepting all animals that need assistance regardless of age, health status or temperament. DCHS has an adoption guarantee, meaning all healthy or treatable animals can stay at DCHS as long as it takes to find a loving home.

As one of the nation's leading animal welfare organizations, DCHS offers humane education programs, community-based care for pets, foster care for animals for victims of domestic abuse, a pet food pantry, dog training classes, wildlife rehabilitation and much more. Our volunteers and professionals come together every day in the spirit of Helping People Help Animals, and together create a culture of compassion, empathy, integrity and accountability.
